In this course students will explore classical and contemporary painting techniques, with an emphasis on understanding the fundamentals of oil painting. The first two weeks will be spent reviewing the foundations of painting through still life, where students will be introduced to the concepts of color theory, compositional structure, perspective and spacial relationships. In the following weeks students will be encouraged to apply this knowledge to their own projects under the guidance of the instructor. Although all painting styles are welcome, there will be a heavy emphasis on figurative work.
