Horse Hair Raku Firing

$150.00

Saturday, May 4th | 1pm - 4pm

17+ | $150

In this workshop we'll explore the fascinating horse hair technique in pottery firing with Andy Grossman of AISi Ceramics. Despite its name, this technique isn't limited to just horse hair. Any carbon-based material—such as dried leaves, feathers (from chicken, goose, or turkey), or seaweed—can be used. Participants are encouraged to bring their own materials for experimentation. For the best results, we recommend using any stoneware with grog, whether red or white. Just keep in mind that the base color of your final piece will depend on the bisque color of your chosen clay.

Participants can bring up to 4 bisqued pieces, max size: 16” x 16” x 16” These pieces *must be bisque fired* before arriving at the workshop on May 4th.

**If you do not have access to a kiln to bisque, ReCreative is offering firing for a separate fee of $30 for up to four pieces, and $5 for each additional piece. Pieces must be dropped off during store hours, 12-6pm, April 21st-23rd, and fit the size requirements for the raku firing. No work will be accepted after April 23rd for bisque firing.**
