Intermediate Sewing: Hemming
Intermediate Sewing: Hemming
Tuesday, May 27th | 6:00pm - 9:00pm
16+ | $90
Know how to thread a machine and ready for the next step? Hemming is a skill you will use in almost every sewing project! A hem is when you take the edge of your fabric, fold it over and sew it down…but it’s not really that simple to do. Please bring a few items 2-5 that need to be hemmed (ex: shirts, pants, curtains…); hemming helps us finish the edges of our items, customize the length, and add your own flavor. Community members are encouraged to bring their own working sewing machines, if ya got 'em! We’ll have machines available for those that do not have their own (yet).
Let’s try to avoid very thin or very stretchy materials. We will discuss methods and tools to help you level up into these fabrics, but they are not a very reasonable place to start.
Jackie Drummond (they/she) grew up in colorado in a multicultural and multigenerational house of sewists. They learned to sew at a young age and received a degree in Technical Theater from Fort Lewis College. There she studied costuming, fashion design, alterations, and machinery from Jane Gould. She is excited to share the foundations of fiber arts through sewing and support the community in their creations! Jackie encourages Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), Queer/2SLGTBQIA+, Children, Elders, Disabled, and Neurodiverse creators to join them in class, where they intentionally hold space for marginalized people to reclaim joy!
