RECONNECTING THROUGH FOLK ART

Opening Reception: March 6th, 7PM

Woven Traditions: Reconnecting Through Folk Art is a collection and celebration of the student work completed in our series of free workshops led by Denver artist Cal Duran and presented in partnership with the Colorado Creative Industries Folk & Traditional Arts Project Grant.

Rooted in the belief that folk art is a living, shared language, this initiative created space for participants of all backgrounds to engage with time-honored creative practices while building community. Through three no-cost workshops—ceramic sculpture, weaving, and papier mâché—students explored material, process, and storytelling, drawing from both personal experience and collective cultural traditions.

The works in this exhibition reflect a range of voices and approaches, from functional objects to expressive forms, each shaped by the artist’s hand and perspective. Together, they highlight the power of accessible arts programming to preserve tradition, spark creativity, and foster meaningful connection.
