Every Thursday from 12:30-2:30pm, the ReCreative Sewing Lounge gathers to work on projects. Bring in your sewing project to work on and get advice from experienced sewists. We have all the notions you need for sale in the store, and a sewing machine to work on. This is a free, drop in space generously hosted by Jan and Linda, two ReCreative community members.

***We have one sewing machine for use on a first-come, first-serve basis. Feel free to bring your own as well!***

Join the Busy Hands Society on the fourth Friday of every month for a free, drop-in craft night! Bring your own project and enjoy a relaxing evening of creativity and connection with fellow crafters.

While the event is free, we suggest a $5 donation to support the space. Any donations can be made at the event. Please RSVP so we can estimate attendance for the evening!

In this feline-focused workshop, participants create their own goyangi (고양이) - the Korean word for cat - portrait utilizing calligraphic ink and brush painting techniques on rice paper. the course offers an introduction to ink painting basics including brush positioning, speed and the use of water in creating gradients. participants are encouraged to experiment outside of these traditional teachings, embracing different tools and forms of mark-making to create their purrfect kitty.

Katherine Summer Kim is an Aurora-based artist whose work explores themes of identity, interconnectedness and our communion with the unseen. Working across disciplines such as drawing, painting and collage, their practice employs line, color, symbolism and text to process experience and emotion. Ranging from figurative to abstract, their work reveals forms both familiar and otherworldly, planes where hurt and hope coexist, bridging personal and universal.

Swap screen time for sketch time in this low-pressure and hands-on workshop for all ages. Whether you want to start a nature journal, capture travel memories, or draw with others, we'll strip away the intimidation of the blank page together. We'll break down key drawing fundamentals in bite-sized pieces, then spend most of our time sketching together. Everyone walks away with a portable mini kit (sketchbook and pen included!) and the confidence to turn any spare moment into a creative practice.

Jess Lau draws and paints from life, so she knows how to capture a scene quickly with simple tools and whatever time you've got. She loves helping people discover that drawing and creativity isn't a talent you're born with, it's something anyone can start doing.

This painting session serves as a creative outlet for building trust in your intuition it is great for those who may tend to overthink or doubt themselves. We will be creating art through use of random objects instead of using a traditional paintbrush, dipping the object into paint and applying to the canvas. This act allows for patterns and shapes to form on the canvas organically allowing the artist to let go of the need to control the outcome of the piece and to find their flow through the very act of creating.

Kaylan Hardin is a mixed-media artist who enjoys using her artistic expression for inner healing, finding creative ways to explore the heart space. Her art is emotion-centered and acts as a tool for processing her feelings. Much of her art has a metaphorical component and frequently incorporates drawings of anatomical hearts and self-portraits. Literal visualizations of her heart journeying through the emotions that arise and reside within. Her goal is to bring out emotional awareness and offer space for individuals to reflect upon the journey of their own heart's emotions.

Need a fresh spark or a mental reset? Whether you're an artist stuck in a rut or someone who loves trying new things, this workshop meets you where you are. Led by a creativity coach, you'll skip the step-by-step instructions and instead respond to playful reflection prompts that guide what you make. We'll use ReCreative's treasure trove of materials for a mixed media experience. No experience needed. You'll leave with your own mixed-media piece and a clearer sense of what lights you up creatively. All supplies are provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own materials that can be used in this experience.

In this introductory course to painting with alcohol-based ink, participants learn to manipulate these fast-drying pigments using isopropyl alcohol, ink droppers and different brush types to create a wide range of effects. working on non-porous yupo paper yields highly unpredictable results, allowing participants to experiment with technique while creating unique, dynamic paintings that can be built upon beyond the workshop.

Discover the magic of cyanotype, an early photographic printing process known for its rich blue tones and dreamy, sun-developed images. In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to create your own prints using light-sensitive materials and natural or found objects. We’ll cover the basics of the cyanotype process - from coating paper and arranging compositions to exposing and developing your prints. You’ll have time to experiment, play, and create a small series of unique works to take home. All materials are provided, but you’re encouraged to bring personal objects (like plants, lace, charms, toys or small opaque items) to make your prints more meaningful.

This watercolor class for beginners covers the basics as you learn how to create your very own fish painting. Before approaching the final painting we will start with the basics of loading your brush with the right water-to-paint ratio, exploring different brush stokes, and how to layer colors to create depth. You will leave this class with all the confidence you need to explore the world of watercolor and a new fish friend to boot.

Heidi is a mixed-media artist living in Denver, CO and working at Recreative Denver. They are always looking to learn new techniques, try new mediums and find unique ways to tell stories through visual art. Heidi started off as a volunteer at Recreative and started working here in March of 2026. Recreative has been a great resource for their creative practice and passion for creative reuse.

Come learn old-school pearl stringing with Nikki. You will leave here learning how to string pearls on silk, using bullion on the end of your thread and tying off in the strand. This method is the old school way, where you don’t have to worry about a bead cap popping open. You can transfer this skill to small beads and gemstones and anything else that has a regular sized hole throughout the strand.

You will go home with a small tool kit* and we will be using inexpensive beads to learn, please don’t bring something nice to string on your first try!

A beginner's Crochet 101 workshop where students will learn the basics of the craft. This includes chaining, the single crochet stitch, and how to "read" crochet stitches (identify where to place your hook). A beginner to intermediate workshop that will teach you how to crochet your own no-sew gummy bear! You'll learn how to make a magic ring, bobble stitch, invisible decrease, and use those together to make a simple amigurumi.

Students should already know how to SC and increase, and to have crocheted before. This is a one-off workshop that will send you home with a gummy bear, or at least part of one, the materials and the skills to make amigurumi in general.

Create a one-of-a-kind pet portrait (or any subject you prefer) as you learn a no-sew technique to make a fabric mosaic. This results in a beautiful, unique portrait you can take home and hang right away after one 3-hour session. Bring your scrap fabrics or use the ones we provide. No sewing, thread, or sewing machines, and no skills are required!
